Hey there, friend! So, you find yourself in that moment in your life where you are thinking,
“ I need a new job, but I feel I am not worth much!” maybe you didn’t finish school, maybe you were forced by wrong decisions to start working in your trade, at that moment of your life you would have taken anything to support your life.
First off, let me tell you, I’ve been there. I know the mix of emotions spinning around – the excitement for new opportunities, the worry about making the right decisions, and the frustration.
But you you find yourself uneasy , and you have an open opportunity, an offer for a different job, but even tho is a great opportunity you feel you’re not being valued enough for what you can offer,
The salary offer doesn’t quite hit the mark. But fear not, negotiating a higher salary is something you can do with grace and confidence. Let me share my story and some tips with you!
Understanding Your Worth
When I was in your shoes, moving on from my previous job, I spent hours researching salary ranges for similar positions. It was eye-opening to see the variety out there. Remember, you bring unique skills and experiences to the table, and it’s essential to know your worth before negotiating.
Here is the thing, life has a very peculiar way of messing with our minds and values. This world instills in us the thought of not being good enough,
Maybe we didn’t make the right choices in the past which marked our current path.
But, God has given us the ability to be fruitful and multiply. We are capable of succeeding once our minds set out to, Whether you put your faith in Him or find strength elsewhere, keep moving forward.
Knowing you have successfully learned valuable skills, even though, you were scared, you succeeded and it’s of great value.
Crafting Your Pitch
Once I had a clear understanding of what I wanted and what I deserved, I practiced my pitch. I rehearsed with friends, tweaked my wording, and made sure I sounded confident yet polite. It’s all about finding that balance between advocating for yourself and maintaining a positive relationship with your potential employer.
Timing Is Everything
Timing played a great role in my negotiation process. I waited until after I received the job offer but before I accepted it to discuss the topic of salary. This showed my enthusiasm for the role while also giving me the opportunity to discuss compensation.
The Polite but Firm Approach
Walking into that negotiation room was nerve-wracking, I won’t lie. But I kept reminding myself that I deserved fair compensation for my skills and contributions. I expressed gratitude for the offer and then calmly presented my case for a higher salary based on market research and my experience.
Personal Story:
I’ll never forget the relief and pride I felt when they agreed to increase the salary offer. It was a validation of my worth and a reminder that it never hurts to ask.
In conclusion, negotiating a higher salary is a journey, but one that is entirely worth it. Remember, you’ve got this! You are worth more than what you may feel!
