Ever catch yourself talking down to yourself? I sure do, probably more than you’d guess. It’s like this habit we’ve had forever, and guess what? We didn’t start it ourselves. It’s been wired into our brains since we were little, tiny babies. As we grew up, our parents, with the best intentions, kind of programmed this into us without even knowing it. Bam! There it was.
Now, don’t get me wrong, our parents meant well. They didn’t mean to harm us. It’s just that their parents did the same thing to them, and the cycle repeated. But it wasn’t just our parents; as we grew older and started to get out there in the world, we got hit with all this negative feedback from the people around us. Again, no one’s at fault here. It’s something we all struggle with.
So, how do we break free from this negativity? Let’s look at it this way: for the past few years, we’ve been battling the pandemic (COVID). Remember when it first hit? It was scary, right? No one knew what to do, and the first thing they told us was to isolate ourselves and stay away from everyone. That’s what we do when we don’t understand something – we shut down and avoid the usual stuff we’re used to. That’s a lot like what we do in our personal lives when we set limits for ourselves because of what we’ve been taught. That’s a big reason why we’re always telling ourselves negative things like “I can’t do it” or “I’m scared to fail.”
These thoughts hold us back from pursuing the great plans and ideas we come up with. But here’s the deal: it’s time to turn things around and start talking to ourselves in a positive way. We need to do the opposite of what we’ve been doing. Now, I’ve got to be real with you; this won’t happen overnight. It takes time, step by step.
Think of it like this: imagine you have a big glass jar filled with really dirty water. To clean it, you can’t just pour out the dirty water; you’ve got to add clean, crystal-clear water. As you add the clean water, it’ll mix with the dirty stuff, and you’ll keep adding until it starts overflowing. The more clean water you add, the less dirty it gets until it’s all clean water.
Our lives are a bit like that jar. We’ve filled them with so much negative thinking, it’s almost overflowing. But now, it’s time to pour in positive thoughts to push out the negative. Just like the jar, it’ll take time. So, be patient with yourself, but don’t give up. Keep adding those positive thoughts, and you’ll notice your life changing for the better. Remember, it’s the little steps, one at a time. If you want more positivity, I’ve written another post you can check out HERE. Good luck, stay positive, and remember: you’re strong! 🌟
